about

None knew from where the Chunky Monk came. Some say He appeared fully formed in the desert outside the city on New Year’s Day 1990. Others claimed He’d brought His advanced four-track technology from another world, even another reality. His story began identically to that of many Albuquerque resident: 10-15 years ago, He’d been trying to get to Dallas/Mexico/the Consumoverse, but His car/starship/dimensional-skipper broke down. So that His fin de millennium testament might be heard, He gathered disciples from copy centers, packaging design, newspapers, cinemas, theaters and recreational pharmaceutical testing facilities - many of them named Dave. He taught these Monkey Chunks the ways of the 4-track and His message was thusly recorded in three volumes including remixes. Fictional reviews described His teachings as “avant-garde low-fi cutup mishmash homemade hyper-spoken word soundscapes,” but these simply miss the Monk for the Chunks. And when the Monkey Chunks had finished, the Great Monk saw that it was good. He readied Himself for his place on the Holy Fucking Porch and had the Y2K bug apply its fatal sting. These are His teachings, remastered in 2020. Lizards.

A warm "Yo!" to all choice dudes and wimmen’ who helped up get us through 1991, and a nice "Dis!" to the dikkksmakks and pinheads who made it hard. You know who you are. Thanks to Grant Garner for the 4-track and the support with mixing. Recorded at the Dave Club on Marble St., Albuquerque, summer 91. Sponsored by bratwürst, sauerkraut, goop mélange, Camel Lights, Red Stripe, Star Trekkk, green chile, and Schtäa Enterprises, Inc. Hi Nick, bye Chrisses! Party.
